Brown Skin

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

BROWN
skin
underappreciated in my young age
skin
misunderstood by my surroundings
skin
molded into stereotypes

Golden
in sunlight
Glistening
in rays of love
Temptation
to the tongue
like molasses of brown sugar

Chocolate
in moonlight
dark
deep
soft and rich
like cocoa harvested by my ancestors

Supple…
and
…summery
in the embrace of shea butter

Velvety…
and
…vivid
in the clutches of coconut oil

Young and naive;
refusing to let my skin breathe,
too shy of what others will think,
entrenched in my mind about what the media says
too broken by the views of men around me.

Maturing and curious;
refusing to NOT let my skin breathe
emboldened by the hate and idiocy of media
rebuilding my confidence
and shunning the views of men around me

I love my skin
like soft spring breezes
tickling faces and chilling pores
like food caressing the tongue
after minutes/hours/days without it
like I love people
the moments with blemishes and pimples that make you angry
but
you never lose hope because with the proper care and love
it will always bounce back.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
